I love this idea of using a pegboard to organize a closet as well as to keep things visible and within reach.

So how exactly do you use a pegboard to improve closet organization?

First off, you have to acquire the appropriate sized pegboard. Pegboards are typically sold in large sheets. Often you can have the store (hardware and/or home supply) cut one to the particular size you need or you can purchase a large sheet and cut it yourself with a jigsaw or circular saw. When measuring your closet and calculating the size of pegboard(s) you need, it’s important to take the placement of clothing rods into consideration

When installing a pegboard in your closet, you’ll want o make sure you create a space between the pegboard and your wall so you can easily hang (and adjust as necessary) a variety of hooks. The best way to keep your pegboard away from your closet wall is to use thin pieces of wood (otherwise known as furring strips). To add extra stability to your clothing rods add two additional furring strips side by side behind the pegboard at each end of the rod(s).

When shopping for hooks to add to your pegboard explore the variety of shapes and sizes available e.g. a series of ‘U’ shaped hooks would be ideal for hanging ties or scarves.

I love this idea for mounting a pegboard inside a closet door and creating an inexpensive mini–dressing station!

To organize your clothing and accessories you’ll need to not only purchase hooks for your pegboard but also snap-on hook holders so the hooks remain secure and don’t wobble. This is particularly important if your wish to enhance your closet organization further by adding a second pegboard panel to your closet door.

In addition to hanging clothing and accessories like purses and belts directly on hooks you can incorporate wire baskets for storing toiletries and other small items.
